Cake Flags

I’ve been meaning to try these out for a while, so it was nice to find an excuse to do a bit of baking. My family arrived from America on Saturday morning, and what better way to greet jetlagged loved ones than with some super-sweet baked goods? I’m really pleased with the way the flags turned out. I think they’d be great table decorations for parties or weddings too – they’d look equally cute stood in sand or as part of a floral decoration.

The Needle Felting Adventure Continues

And I continue to stab my fingers with that pesky barbed needle. Despite the injuries i’m still enjoying the process, and hope to have a brand new family for sale in the shop very soon. Sneak peek below – can you tell what it is yet?

A Painful Experiment

If you’ve seen my shop, you’ll know i’m a felt fan. There’s something lovely about a material that’s 100% natural, and the quality and longevity which comes from that.

I first tried needle felting a few years back, but after stabbing myself with the needle a few times I lost my enthusiasm! However, in the last couple of months i’ve had a few brand new ideas and in thinking about possible materials and techniques, needle felting seemed to come up again and again as the perfect choice.

I’ve had a couple of sneaky trials so far with some ridiculously bright pink wool (Barbie really did mean Barbie in this case!) and I have to say it’s going much better than my previous attempt – and with far fewer needle related injuries! So watch this space – a little more prototyping and i’ll be ready to get some feedback.

A Little Diversion

I popped into my favourite Art shop yesterday, and found myself buying a porcelain paint pen on a whim… On the drive home I started thinking of all sorts of things to scrawl over, and on arriving home I quickly located a jug in need of a little revamp. The pen made transferring the crazy garden design extremely easy, and it only takes 30 minutes in the oven to make the motif completely dishwasher proof.

I think i’m going to have to go back and stock up on more pens!
