Ice Cream Lunch Break

Pistachio Ice Cream

I was lured down to Folkestone today to have a root around the monthly flea market. It turns out that Easter Sunday wasn’t a brilliant day for me to make the trip – there wasn’t a great turnout. But I did make time to stop for pistachio ice cream. Yum. So the day wasn’t a total loss. I also nabbed a great print while I was there (for a bargain price, too) – dedicated post to follow once i’ve decided where to hang it!

A few more photos from Friday’s excursion. Ones with a less food related vibe. Independent shops are popping up all over Rye, and whether they’re full of carefully chosen artefacts and curios or are more haphazard in arrangement, there’s stacks to sift through from days gone by.

I did also happen upon a couple of brand new shops, full of brand new things. Bird is a great boutique selling women’s clothes and accessories. They had some really lovely gold and silver jewellery – I might have to make a return journey for another look. I couldn’t resist a bottle of glittery nail varnish though. I’m a sucker for Butter shades.

A couple of doors down there’s a cute store full of wonderful soap and candles. Silly me, I forgot to even look at the name of the place – I think I was too concerned about cooing over the decor and products (“This is how my bathroom should look!”, “That mirror is beautiful!”, and so on…)

Every time I visit Rye I wonder why i’ve stayed away for so long. This trip was no exception. Rye, I’ll come back soon!

Lunch at The George in Rye

A work free Friday was the perfect opportunity to head out for a little wander and a spot of lunch at The George in Rye. The sun was shining (again! Must try not to become too accustomed to the unseasonably wonderful weather!) and we enjoyed great food, and great company. I only managed to take a quick snap of my potted shrimp, I was a bit too eager to tuck in. And I shouldn’t mention the pudding of gooey chocolate brownie and orange ice cream – that didn’t even get photographed. Note to self – must curb greed. And yes. It was heavenly.

The George is a wonderful venue, my lovely sister got married here not too long after it opened on a rather rainy July day (photos are here, if you’re interested – the day was captured by the gorgeous, and rather clever Jodie Chapman) but we didn’t care too much about the weather. The decoration inside is impeccable – i’d move in tomorrow if I could! Each bedroom is styled in its own unique way, and everything feels wonderfully luxurious. Oh, and the lights above the bar? I adore them. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay on a trip to Kent, i’d urge (read- order) you to book a room at The George.

bluebells

Today we went for a walk in the woods. The first bluebells are just beginning to burst into life… My goodness does this place look incredible with a carpet of ciel – just a couple more weeks and the flowers will be out in a big and beautiful way.

(Spring time is great!)
